A quick guide to Australian vehiclesAustralia's most popular cars are not the same as the ones you see in Europe. Australians prefer cars that are larger in size with bigger engines. This is mainly because Australians need to travel further on roads where conditions can vary quite a lot. Away from the cities roads can get narrow and some remote roads are often just dirt.
Because Australia's weather conditions are much drier and warmer than Europe, cars don't rust as much and tend to last longer. Their big engines don't have to work hard and can easily last well over 200,000 km.
Even though our cars may not look brand new, we carefully check them mechanically to make sure your travels are as hassle-free as possible. We know which cars give trouble and stay away from them.

Due to the Australian weather conditions our cars last a lot longer, especially in South Australia. There is no snow on the roads during the winter and therefore no salt. Furthermore, there is less rain especially in South Australia. As a consequence, the bodies of our vehicles have less rust and easily last twenty to thirty years. It is more important that the cars work well mechanically. That's why we do a thorough mechanical check of all our vehicles before we sell them.

Fuel is generally much cheaper than Europe. Starting from around $1.20/litre in the cities, it can go as high as $1.70 in some remote outback locations. Diesel is mainly for trucks and 4WDs and costs a little more. Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) is very popular. LPG costs between $0.50 and $1.00 per litre and is widely available around the country.

Due to the vast distances and low fuel prices, engines are bigger in Australia. We do not usually recommend vehicles with engines smaller than 1.8 litre (4 cylinder). Although smaller engine sizes are available, they are only suitable for one or two persons in city driving and short distances. We recommend cars with 6 cylinder engines over 3.0 litres for their reliability and luggage space. V8 engines are available too, but not necessary. The majority of these vehicles are fitted with simple automatic transmissions and are pleasant and effortless to drive.
