If you are planning to stay in hostels or camp, a motor bike or station wagon may be all you need. While you can also sleep in a station wagon for a few nights, you should go for a van or camper van if you plan to do so on a regular basis. In a camper van you can even cook and eat - a small house. A motor home provides you with even more space.

That's up to you and your budget. We can work around that. From AUD$ 1000 up to whatever. However, the more you spend, the better you get. While motor bikes and station wagons are the cheapest option, you may pay more for camper vans, motor homes and 4WDs. Vans are a good compromise for many travellers, as they provide you with the possibility to sleep in the vehicle and are reasonably cheap.

It's up to you. That's the best thing about owning your own vehicle. The freedom! In Australia we have sealed roads, dirt roads and tracks. Tracks are only for 4WDs and dirt roads can be as slippery as black ice. All of it fun. Especially the beaches!

The number of you travelling may also determine the type of vehicle you choose. Vans and Camper Vans are limited to 2 - 4 people. Station Wagons max. out between 5 + 6 people. Some buy two vehicles. This can be a good idea. The more people you have, the cheaper the running costs.
